Kerala Backwaters & Houseboat Tour – 4 Nights / 5 Days Cochin Munnar Alleppey Kovalam

Upon arrival at Cochin International Airport/Railway Station, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Cochin, also known as Kochi, is a historic port city with influences from Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial eras. After check-in and some rest, proceed for Cochin sightseeing. Visit Fort Kochi to see the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church (the oldest European church in India), Santa Cruz Basilica, and the historic Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace). In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kathakali dance performance (optional). Kathakali is a classical dance-drama of Kerala known for its elaborate costumes and expressive movements. After breakfast, depart for Munnar, a picturesque hill station nestled in the Western Ghats at an altitude of 1600 meters. The drive takes you through scenic landscapes, tea plantations, and spice gardens. En route, visit Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls (seasonal). On arrival in Munnar, check into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Tea Museum to learn about tea processing and sample different varieties of tea. Take a leisurely walk through tea gardens, breathing in the fresh mountain air. Munnar's cool climate and panoramic views make it a perfect retreat. You may also visit local spice gardens to see cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon plants. Overnight stay at hotel in Munnar.

After breakfast, enjoy some time exploring Munnar. You may visit Echo Point, Mattupetty Dam, or take a nature walk. Later, depart for Alleppey (Alappuzha), known as the "Venice of the East." Upon arrival in Alleppey, board your traditional Kerala houseboat (kettuvallam) for an overnight cruise through the backwaters. These houseboats are made of natural materials like bamboo poles, coconut fiber ropes, bamboo mats, and wood. As you cruise through tranquil canals, lakes, and lagoons, witness daily life along the banks - villagers fishing, women washing clothes, children playing, and farmers tending to paddy fields. Enjoy freshly prepared Kerala cuisine on board. The houseboat will anchor at a scenic spot for the night. Overnight stay on houseboat in Alleppey.

Wake up to the gentle sounds of water and birds. After breakfast on the houseboat, disembark and proceed to Kovalam, one of Kerala's most famous beach destinations. The drive takes you through scenic countryside. On arrival in Kovalam, check into your beach resort/hotel. Kovalam is known for its crescent-shaped beaches divided into three sections: Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach, and Samudra Beach. The evening is free to relax on the beach, swim in the Arabian Sea (with caution), or watch the spectacular sunset. You may also explore the local shops selling handicrafts, spices, and coconut-based products. Enjoy a seafood dinner at a beachside restaurant. Overnight stay at hotel/resort in Kovalam.

After breakfast, you have some free time to enjoy Kovalam beach. You may visit the Vizhinjam Lighthouse for panoramic views of the coastline, or indulge in Ayurvedic massage/treatment at a nearby center (optional). Kovalam is also known for its Ayurvedic wellness centers. Later, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) International Airport (approximately 30-45 minutes drive) for your onward journey.
